It turns out that the best way to destress after a final and take a quick break from studying to relax, is to go for a hike! I had three days of finals before a three day break and my last final so I had quite a few late afternoon hikes. For our finals we hadContinue reading “The One With the Title Like a Friends Episode”

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
As promised last time, I went hiking the very next day and took some pictures of the hanukkiah from the top of electric mountain. The sun was setting so I got some pretty awesome pictures. The last day of Hanukkah was Christmas Eve so it’s been over for awhile now, however the stores are stillContinue reading “O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree”
Hanukkah, O Hanukkah….
So I ended last post with pictures of the wadis in the desert filled with oil. However, the very next day it rained and the whole valley started flooding. This definitely had potential devastating impacts on the oil spill but dams were made to try to contain the oil so it didn’t spill into Jordan.Continue reading “Hanukkah, O Hanukkah….”
Here There Be Oil….
We had a fun potluck for our belated Thanksgiving, I made mashed potatoes and gravy, our academic director made a stuffed chicken. As I mentioned in the last blog it was postponed to the following Monday since students were gone on the Thursday of Thanksgiving. The best part about Thanksgiving is getting together and cooking together,Continue reading “Here There Be Oil….”
The Group Goes to Jerusalem
If you take a look at the above image you can play a little game and see if you can spot three ibexes hanging out on the hill. Maybe this is really easy, I’ve looked at this picture enough times that they don’t seem camouflaged anymore so I really don’t know. One day we allContinue reading “The Group Goes to Jerusalem”
When Cows Fly
Alrighty, as promised here are pictures from the second half of the anniversary celebration of Ketura’s 41st year as a Kibbutz. In addition to the skits and speeches made last time I posted, there was also a special wake for the dairy center on the kibbutz. It was done in the style of an irishContinue reading “When Cows Fly”
Anniversaries and Birthdays
And really, aren’t they one and the same when you think about it? A birthday is just celebrating the anniversary of your birth after all. I mentioned before that the last day of our Negev Trip was on my birthday, but since the blog post ended there, I didn’t get to talk about the marvelousContinue reading “Anniversaries and Birthdays”
Wedding Time!
As things settle down (a month and a half in), the weeks get a little less crowded and my blogs might start being a little less often. Especially as I don’t bring my camera to some activities, such as a trail ride on horseback in the desert. An extremely fun part of the week, butContinue reading “Wedding Time!”
Exploring the Desert
Everyone loves field trips and that was no exception for us! We started the week with a field trip for ecology learning about the ecology of the Arava desert and the ecology of the Red Sea. We started at a bird reserve just outside of Eilat, it’s a little late in the season so weContinue reading “Exploring the Desert”
It’s Not All About Hiking
Once a year, all the kibbutzim in the area get together and have a huge farmer’s market. Luckily for the students, we were here during that time! We all hopped on the bus and headed to a kibbutz just to the north of us and spent a few happy hours shopping around the booths andContinue reading “It’s Not All About Hiking”
